After years of working in high-risk, high-stress environments as operators, handlers, and instructors, the team at Dark Thirty Film has taken their comprehensive background in private military operations and law enforcement and applied it to work that’s a bit more … laidback and fun. Much like our experience in the military, our philosophy is defined by honor, dignity, character, and respect. We are highly skilled and knowledgeable in what we do. We take this and each and every job that we have done and addressed it with the highest level of care and professionalism.
Economy of motion is our goal, and we have a streamline-to-task mindset. Our job is to make every aspect of a scene involving weapons or military/law enforcement maneuvers look, sound, and feel 100 percent authentic for audiences.
MEET THE TEAM
Bryan W. Carpenter
Bryan is a veteran private military contractor currently working in the film industry as an armorer, trainer, stunt performer and producer. If you can’t find him rescuing a stray cat, drinking a fine cup of coffee on Magazine st., or enjoying 80’s night in the French Quarter, he’s probably at the range or off the grid. A Mississippi native, Bryan spent 20+ years immersed in strategic operations and has undergone extensive training during his time there.
Bryan holds instructor level certifications in numerous special operations and tactical fields and logged thousands of hours training military, federal/state agencies, private military contract firms and corporations in ‘unique’ courses of study.
Managing Partner/Training Coordinator
We’re ignoring Dawn’s “don’t list me anywhere” directive. We can’t help ourselves; she’s just too awesome – a cool chick with great taste in T-shirts and wine. Dawn has worked in the private contracting community for more than 10 years as an administrative coordinator, senior executive department lead, and project manager. She is calm, cool, and can work out the differences when no one else can. (In other words, she excels where others in our field fail!) Dawn is trained in tactical shotgun, handgun, rifle and unarmed combat. She also serves as a close protection agent in the film industry, specializing in keeping the ladies safe. Dawn has earned respect on both sides of the game.
Dawn currently works as a managing partner of Dark Thirty Film Services and as training coordinator for Sphere Logistic Solutions.
At the age of twelve, Nick ran away from military school to join the circus. This is a true statement. Now we could end Nick’s bio here and this singular life choice would make him the coolest person to grace our page, but some peoples lives are grand events and Nick is one of those rare characters. Once circus life became too mundane, Nick chose a life of stunts on film. Know to some as “The Swordsmaster” (we said it would get better) Nick is responsible for some of those epic Star Wars lightsaber battles. Yup, he’s a true blue Jedi Master and if you don’t believe us, google it.
Billy has made a career out of serving our country. Graduated BUD/s Class 175 then served twenty years in the US Navy/NSW earning a Bronze Star with Combat Valor for his service in Iraq. A fun, handsome dude with a winning smile and personality, in fact, he’s kinda like Richard Gere…. except he’s a Master Chief Navy Seal, a total badass, and owns a tortoise named Ruby.
Vice President of Operations
Michael, a professional actor with more than 10 years of film and television experience, started working with Dark thirty film and Sphere Logistic Solutions’ training division to improve in his on-screen work. Turns out, he’s pretty damn good at it! He’s a valuable asset to both companies, and we just like him hanging around. In his spare time, Michael brews beer, cooks hamburgers and sells houses. That’s how he rolls.
Joe M. Savio
Mr. Joseph Savio. If you knew Joe, his natural habitat would be sitting in the back of some fancy Italian restaurant with a gold ring being issued respect. Yeah, that’s about right. Hailing from the East Coast, Joe has his finger on the pulse of the operations community. Owner of Modern Material Rifles and professional trainer – if we need to know what’s really happening behind the scenes, we just ask Joe. That explains line one.
Law enforcement since 2005, Lance is a career officer who makes us proud. Working his way up the old-fashioned way, Lance began as a patrolman then supervisor, Detective, Detective Supervisor, SWAT, SWAT Team Commander… so bad guys beware. Aside from the fact that he’s just a truly great guy, we really only keep him around for his wife’s famous carnitas. So good.
Okay… so… you ever watch the Hallmark channel? Especially around the holidays. You know that super awesome family member who takes care of everybody, always? Well, meet Shannon. The surrogate mother, sister, friend to many a Dark Thirty student. Shannon acts as our hospitality agent, and boy are we lucky to have her. Whether she’s punching holes in targets alongside you or navigating a boat down the channels of Louisianna she’s always doing it with flare.
When you need specialty services on the water, BJ’s our man. Hailing from a seafaring family, it’s in his blood. At the rate he’s going, we’re hoping to remake Waterworld in a few years. Sweet. Oh, and we know you’re looking at the puppy!
All attempts to find any picture of Nigel where he actually looks intimidating were a failure. That loveable smile keeps getting in the way.
But don’t let the smile fool you. Nigel served with the Royal Marines, Special Reconnaissance Regiment, and 22 SAS. Impressive. Since then he has established Blue Mountain Group a company led using his own personal values and ethos, which are reflected in everything that Blue Mountain achieves. Nigel has operated internationally for high net worth clients, celebrities, royalty, corporations, and governments providing Specialist Security and Professional Training.
